The Performance Sailing with Asymmetric Spinnaker 2-Day course is designed to teach you how to make a sailboat go fast efficiently both upwind using techniques such as VMG and Target Boat Speed using Polar diagrams and downwind flying an Asymmetric Spinnaker.  This course is a great steppingstone to prepare you for our Race Boat Training course where you will learn advanced skills such as race start timing tactics, efficient upwind/downwind sailing and mark rounding tactics and more Asymmetric spinnaker flying, trimming and dousing skills.

Prerequisites?

The course is appropriate for any graduate of the Basic Keelboat certification course or any sailor who has had no formal sailing education but has at least a few years of sailing experience on keelboats.

What will I learn?

Finer points of shaping of sails for various wind conditions and how to make a sailboat go fast!  You will also learn more advanced skills such as reading a Polar Diagram for a J80, how to sail the fastest and most efficient course using Velocity Made Good (VMG) and Target Boat Speed for sailing both upwind and downwind.   You will also spend time learning how to make a sailboat sail faster downwind flying an Asymmetric Spinnaker.

How will I spend my time?

This 2-day class runs from 9:00am until 4:00pm each day.  You will spend approximately 1 hour each day in a classroom or dockside discussion and the rest of the time will be spent on the water on our J80 sport keelboat learning and practicing the skills taught during the classroom sessions.
