International Proficiency Certificate

Thinking of Chartering in Europe?  Make Sure you Are Licensed

Your  passport to Bareboat Chartering in the European Union

The International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) works much like a driver’s license for a car.  The certificate MUST be presented to a charter company to obtain a boat, and then carried at all times while sailing in EU waters, including the Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Seas.

J World Annapolis has TWO pathways to earn your IPC:

Certification Courses: Complete the US Sailing Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising Certifications.  Visit our calendar for a schedule of courses.  Standard tuition for each certification applies.

Challenge:   The experienced sailor may “challenge” for the IPC in our two-day evaluation.  In essence, you are challenging the US Sailing Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising certifications, and the course is an evaluation of your skills.  Be prepared to show significant experience and come prepared to demonstrate all the required skills.

This is a two day course.  You will be provided with the textbooks to prepare for the challenge and should arrive prepared to take all three multiple choice exams.  There will be a walkthrough conducted on our 26′ tiller-steered keelboats as well as our 30’+ cruisers to test knowledge of systems including sail controls, propulsion, plumbing, ground tackle, electronics, etc.  On the second day of the training, you will be required to demonstrate core competencies of the Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, and Bareboat Cruising courses on the water.

Challenge Cost:  $895

Includes:

  • Textbooks from US Sailing for Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising
