Basic Cruising/3-Day Course

Our 3-day cruising course teaches the fundamentals of cruising aboard larger, more complex cruising boats.
In our basic cruising course you will learn boat systems including diesel basics, electrical, plumbing, through-hull fittings, propane system, galley, safety equipment, roller furling and self-tailing winches. You will build your coastal navigation skills and refine anchoring, maneuvering under power, docking, reefing, dinghy operation, crew overboard recovery and more!
After completing this course, you will have the skills and confidence to skipper and charter a 30-40 foot boat in moderate conditions, in protected coastal waters.
If qualified, you can obtain US Sailing Basic Cruising Certification during our 3-day course. You should have the ability to confidently sail a boat on your own with a complete understanding of fundamental sailing theory. The course is suitable for graduates of our Learn to Sail 4 or 5 day courses, our Performance Sailing course, as well as anyone with US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.
We teach this course using our J 32s and J 105s. The course runs Friday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day, or in a Monday-Wednesday format. The tuition includes certification fees.
