The fun way to learn to sail!

Whether your child has done any dinghy sailing or has never set foot on a boat, J World Annapolis’ Kids on Keelboats is a great introduction to the joy of sailing keelboats.

We take our normal content-rich Basic Keelboat course and adapt it to engage and challenge both seasoned Opti sailors as well as first timers.  Taught aboard our fast, fun and safe J/80’s, the Kids on Keelboats course is alll about sailing and fun!

Who should take this course?

Our Kids on Keelboats course is designed for 12-18 year-olds.  This course is the start of the US Sailing certification process and is a prerequisite to all other U.S. Sailing certifications.  No experience is necessary to take this course, but seaoned Opti sailors find it challenging and worthwhile too!

What will the kids learn?

The course is focused on developing wind awareness, sail trim, boat handling, seamanship, navigation and general sailing skills.  

Can the kids earn a US Sailing Certification?

YES!  This course is the first step in the US Sailing Certification series of courses.  There are both written and practical test components of this course.  But don’t worry, the test is REALLY easy if you listen to your coaches!

How will the kids spend their time?

Kids on Keelboats is a five-day course  runs from 9AM to 4PM each day.  Just a little bit of classroom (tent) discussion kicks off each morning and the rest of the time is spent on the water sailing!
