Coastal Navigation Certification
This is an ideal course for anyone who wants to develop a solid foundation in navigation principles. The curriculum for this seminar will cover charts and features, compass errors, plotting, triangulation, dead reckoning, route planning, tides, current vectors, aids to navigation and an introduction to electronic navigation. This course includes US Sailing certification upon passing the written exam. Class will begin on Saturday and Sunday, both from 9am – 5pm at our facility in Eastport. You will receive a confirmation of your registration request, with an invoice that must be paid prior to the start of the course.
Classes run from 7-9pm on Friday evening with a virtual online meeting, then 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday at our facility, 213 Eastern Avenue, Annapolis, MD.
NOTE: The Coastal Navigation textbook and Chart 1210Tr are included in the cost of the seminar. When you have registered and paid for the course, we will mail you your Coastal Navigation textbook which you will use to participate in the hands-on seminar.
Various tools such as a nautical parallel ruler, rolling plotter, a set of dividers, number 2 pencils and a soft eraser are required to participate in the seminar. J World will not be supplying these tools so you will need to obtain your own navigation tools for use in the class. Recommended tools are:
- 1. A Nautical Parallel Rule (Weems and Plath #141 , 15”: w/ brushed aluminum arms) and/or
- 2. Rolling Plotter (Weems & Plath Parallel Plotter #120), Having both plotters (1 and 2) is ideal.
- 3. Dividers (Weems & Plath Ultralight Divider #176)
All these navigation tools are available from Weems and Plath, Maryland Nautical Sales, or Amazon.com. We recommend ordering them 2-3 weeks in advance of the seminar you are enrolled in and ordering them from whoever will deliver them the quickest.
