SUMMARY:Basic Keelboat Weekend II
DESCRIPTION:Our basic keelboat/2-weekend format is designed for those who want a comprehensive Learn to Sail course but are unable to take a course with us on weekdays.\nUpon successful completion of Basic Keelboat\, graduates will have successfully demonstrated the ability to responsibly skipper and crew a simple day sailing keelboat in familiar waters in light to moderate wind and sea conditions.  This course is conducted onboard our high performing 26′ keelboats – J/80’s.  Your sessions can be scheduled for either consecutive weekends or at other intervals – making our two-weekend course the most flexible way for you to learn to sail.  For each weekend\, you will be placed onboard with others at the same progression level. \nBy taking this course\, we guarantee that you will acquire the skills and knowledge to pass the written and skill evaluation for US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.  If you do not pass during your course\, you may come back for makeup instruction and testing until you do at no additional charge. \nUS Sailing Standards \nSo who should take this class? \nEverybody interested in developing a strong sailing foundation while acquiring US Sailing’s Basic Keelboat Certification. \nHow will I spend my Time? \nThis course is held from 9:00 to 4:00 over the span of two weekends.  The weekends do not have to be sequential but is our recommendation to complete the two weekends as close together as possible. SUMMARY:Performance Sailing 3-Day
DESCRIPTION:The Performance Sailing 3-Day course is designed to provide more detail on how to shape and trim sails to make a sailboat sail efficiently and faster.  This class will concentrate on boat handling under sail to include refining how to shape the sails for light\, moderate and heavy wind using various sail controls that are standard on a J80 sailboat.  You will also get introduced to flying an Asymmetric spinnaker during this class. \nPrerequisites? \nThe course is appropriate for any graduate of the Basic Keelboat certification course or any sailor who has had no formal sailing education but has at least a few years of sailing experience on keelboats. \nWhat will I learn? \nFiner points of shaping of sails for various wind conditions and how to make a sailboat go fast!  You will learn about terms such as Angle of Attack\, Draft and Twist and how various controls on the boat shape your sails for efficient sailing in any wind.  You will also learn about True and Apparent wind and how to read telltales on the sails to keep your boat sailing as efficiently as possible. \nYou will also learn more advanced skills such as reading a Polar Diagram for a J80\, how to sail the fastest and most efficient course using Velocity Made Good (VMG) and Target Boat Speed for sailing both upwind and downwind.  You will learn techniques on how to “shift gears” on a sailboat to get the boat moving in first gear\, sail fast in second gear and point closer to the wind in third gear.  You will also spend time learning how to make a sailboat sail faster downwind flying an Asymmetric Spinnaker. \nHow will I spend my time? \nThis 3-day class runs from 9:00am until 4:00pm each day.  You will spend approximately 1 hour each day in a classroom or dockside discussion and the rest of the time will be spent on the water on our J80 sport keelboat learning and practicing the skills taught during the classroom sessions. \nHow do I register? \nCall 410-280-2040 and talk to our in-house staff to get scheduled into a class. \nWhat should I bring? \nComfortable weather appropriate clothing\, athletic shoes\, hat\, sunglasses and plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. \nPrice:  $895 \n

This course is the best way to get the basic knowledge required to become a capable crew member and discover sailing.  Whether you are new to sailing or returning to the sport\, this class gets you started on the right track. \nPrerequisites?\nNone! \nWhat will I learn?\nWind awareness\, points of sail\, solid boat handling including steering\, tacking and gybing\, sail controls\, docking and departing\, heaving to and how to stop while sailing. \nCertification?\nThe course comes with a certificate of completion from J World Annapolis.   While there is no US Sailing certification\, this course is the equivalent of the first two days of the US Sailing Basic Keelboat course\, and you may choose to continue your education to receive that certification by completing the additional training days on another weekend\, or during the week. \nHow will I spend my time?\nThis two-day class runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.   One hour of classroom discussion kicks off each day and the rest of the time is spent on the water sailing. \nHow do I register?\nThis class is offered every weekend from April 1 to October 31\, and is also available on Monday and Tuesday of each week.
