SUMMARY:IN-PERSON - Coastal Navigation Certification
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Navigation Certification\nThis is an ideal course for anyone who wants to develop a solid foundation in navigation principles.  The curriculum for this seminar will cover charts and features\, compass errors\, plotting\, triangulation\, dead reckoning\, route planning\, tides\, current vectors\, aids to navigation and an introduction to electronic navigation.   This course includes US Sailing certification upon passing the written exam. Class will begin on Saturday and Sunday\, both from 9am – 5pm at our facility in Eastport. You will receive a confirmation of your registration request\, with an invoice that must be paid prior to the start of the course. \nClasses run 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday at our facility\, 213 Eastern Avenue\, Annapolis\, MD.\n \nNOTE:  The Coastal Navigation textbook and Chart 1210Tr are included in the cost of the seminar.  When you have registered and paid for the course\, we will mail you your Coastal Navigation textbook which you will use to participate in the hands-on seminar. \n\n Various tools such as a nautical parallel ruler\, rolling plotter\, a set of dividers\, number 2 pencils and a soft eraser are required to participate in the seminar.  J World will not be supplying these tools so you will need to obtain your own navigation tools for use in the class.  Recommended tools are: \n\n\n\n1. A Nautical Parallel Rule (Weems and Plath #141 \, 15”: w/ brushed aluminum arms) and/or\n\n\n\n2. Rolling Plotter (Weems & Plath Parallel Plotter #120)\,  Having both plotters (1 and 2) is ideal.\n\n\n\n3. Dividers (Weems & Plath Ultralight Divider #176)\n\n\n\n All these navigation tools are available from Weems and Plath\, Maryland Nautical Sales\, or Amazon.com.  We recommend ordering them 2-3 weeks in advance of the seminar you are enrolled in and ordering them from whoever will deliver them the quickest.\n \nCourse Tuition: $545\nPlease contact our office at 410-280-2040 to enroll in this seminar. \n

SUMMARY:Basic Keelboat 5-Day Course
DESCRIPTION:The Basic Keelboat course is the most comprehensive learn to sail course there is. \nWe start the keelboat course on board the boat\, introducing you to the basic parts of the boat and how to rig the sails. Next\, we’ll help you develop wind awareness and its relationship to the boat.  You will get underway without using a motor and move into basic maneuvering drills including tacking\, gybing\, and points of sail. \nThe curriculum includes rules of the road\, maneuvering in tight areas\, light and heavy wind sailing techniques\, principles of boat balance\, seamanship skills\, knots\, reefing\, anchoring\, docking\, mooring approaches\, crew overboard recovery\, basic navigation\, introduction to spinnaker\, crew responsibilities\, and destination sailing. \nClassroom presentations include:\nSail Trim and Balance\, Principles of Seamanship and Fundamentals of Navigation.  You will complete this class with the skills and confidence to competently skipper or crew a small to medium size keelboat in protected waters in light to moderate wind and waves and the US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification is awarded at the end of the course. \nWho should take this course? \nEverybody interested in developing a strong sailing foundation while acquiring US Sailing’s entry level certification\, Basic Keelboat. \nCertification? \nUS Sailing Basic Keelboat\, J World Annapolis certificate of completion. \n\nEquipment\nThe course will be on our high performing J/80’s\, a 26’ daysailing sloop-rigged keelboat with tiller steering and with adequate equipment inventory to complete all required certification outcomes. \nPrerequisite\nThere is no prerequisite for Basic Keelboat Certification or the 5-Day course. \nCertification Requirements\nCertification requirements include an evaluation on the water as well as a written test.    \nClick here to view the US Sailing certification requirements. \n\nHow will I spend my time? \nThis five day course runs from 9:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday.   \nHow do I register? \nThis class is offered nearly week from the beginning of April 1 to the end of October.  Select a date and contact us via phone\, email or click on the “enroll now” button at the bottom of the page. \nWhat should I bring? \nComfortable weather appropriate clothing\, athletic shoes\, and plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.  Bring a lunch from home\, or order ahead of time through our local deli located just down the street from our campus. \nPrice:  $1245 \nEnroll Now!
