Introduction to Racing 4-Day

An event every day that begins at 9:00am, repeating until June 11, 2017
We will work on boat handling, sail trim and spinnaker handling during the first part of the week and then move on to starting and boat against boat speed and tactical drills. We finish the week with a round-the-buoys regatta against your classmates! Upon completion of this course, you will have the skills and confidence to compete successfully as skipper or crew in your local and regional PHRF and one-design events. Prerequisites: You should have the ability to confidently sail a boat on your own with a complete understanding of fundamental sailing theory.
The course is suitable for graduates of our Learn to Sail 5 or 6 day courses, our Performance Cruising course, as well as anyone with US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.
Who should take this class?
Anyone interested in learning how to race or race better should consider taking this course. We suggest that incoming students have a US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification or have sailing experience that is commensurate with the Basic Keelboat Standard.
None, but we recommend anyone considering this course should have completed a J World Basic Keelboat course or have sailing experience that is commensurate with the Basic Keelboat Standard.
What will I learn?
Introduction to racing give students a strong foundation in racing sail trim and balance, upwind strategy and tactics, starting strategy and tactics, downwind strategy and tactics and the racing rules.
Students will receive a J World Annapolis certificate of completion.
How will I spend my time?
This four day class runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm from Thursday through Sunday. From the beginning of May through the end of August, students are encouraged to join us on Thursday nights for our weekly Thursday Night Racing.

What should I bring?
Comfortable weather appropriate clothing, athletic shoes, and plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Lunch can be ordered from us or bring your own! If you need anything else, give us a call and we can help.
