Ever feel lost out there? What if it gets foggy or dark?
This piloting seminar will help you feel more confident in using your chart, your GPS, your radio, and most importantly your eyes to get home safely!
This one-day morning and afternoon piloting seminar is designed for beginning or inexperienced navigators and will use charts of our local waters around Annapolis to help you feel more confident in knowing where you are and getting to where you want to go safely.
Morning: Reading and understanding a chart, plotting latitude and longitude, understanding and using basic aids to navigation (ATONS), plotting a course, using bearings to determine a position (ie a FIX), basic speed, distance run and time elapsed (DED RECKONING)
Afternoon: Discussion of electronic nav aids (primarily GPS): features, pitfalls, and integrating with visual aids and your charts; proper use of your VHF radio, practice (simulated) cruise on our local waters using all of the above
Note: This course does not include any US Sailing certifications, but it will help you prepare for more advanced courses later in the season, including Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Coastal Navigation.
